 DORIA D painter & poet

Notes from captivity.  Scottsdale, Arizona.

We are in a moment where it is necessary to think a little more profoundly.  To believe in the magic that we make.  To be the light in someone’s life.  To put a splash of color on the grey landscape.  We artists, already, spend most of our time over-dramatizing.  We, by nature, seek to feel more so that we can create every day.  We see we listen, and we hear singularly.  We push the limits.  The shutdown has simply magnified our natural instincts.  So, after the fear and anxiety pass, you sit, you smile and then you paint.

Paint and poetry are intimately entangled for me.  My work comes from my writing.  I often write in Italian to find a rhythm to my abstract ideas.  That flow then transforms as I paint.  I search for a rhythm inside the colors, a poetic adventure of textures and shades.  My paintings are what my soul needs to express.  My poetic thoughts become vivid colors and textures.  I paint with unconventional slashes and scratches, and my poetic noise is embedded in strokes across my canvases.  My interpretations of nature, life, and emotions.

Art is not just what I do, it is who I am.  I believe that every journey begins with a childlike leap into the joyful noise that makes each one of us a unique individual.  I have written and painted all my life.  Whether painting or poetry, I find my spirit and strength are energized by the environment and emotions that surround me.  I listen to my symphony and then I begin the journey to discover my joyful noise.
